Tsunu is one of the most widespread and oldest types of Rapé. It is made from the ashes of the sacred Tsunú tree, or "Pao Pereira" (Platycyamus regnellii). The Pao Pereira is known not only for its beauty (it is a tree growing to a height of 10-20 meters), but also because it is considered one of the ten most important Brazilian medicinal plants of the Amazon. Macerates and decoctions prepared from the bark of this tree are used in indigenous medicine to treat various ailments, including malaria, digestive disorders, constipation, fever, liver pain, cancer, and as sexual stimulants. Nowadays, a large number of Pao Pereira preparations and tinctures can be found on the market specifically for the supportive treatment of cancer.
Indians say that rapé Pau Pereira opens the third eye chakra and clears mental fog and confusion, releasing negative thoughts and connecting us to the breath and expanding our connection to spirit.
