Palo Santo means "Sacred Wood" in Castilian, which is the popular name of the Bursera Graveolens tree.
This wood was used by the Incas as well as by indigenous peoples, healers and shamans in several Latin American countries.
Traces of Palo Santo have been found in archaeological sites of ceremonial centres of pre-Inca peoples.
The Palo Santo tree lives between 50 and 90 years, and in order to obtain a stick of satisfactory aromatic quality, it is possible to extract this from the trunks only after the natural death of the tree, when such a tree must remain in the same place. This time, required to create an aromatic resin on its own and become a real Palo Santo, ranges from 4 to 10 years.
