Painting painted by our Brazilian friend José, who makes products from the products of the rainforest for Sarava. He has lived his whole life in Indian communities, in connection with the medical and spiritual path of the Indians. José's products are created by connecting with the power of the rainforest and immersing himself in a meditative state. As a result, each of his products becomes a unique original.

At the beginning of the painting, José smears the canvas with rainforest medicine and herbs. Then he paints the images he sees in his visions.
The entire painting is interwoven with the Tucum Line, which the Indians have been making for several weeks.

Tucum fibre is extracted from the tassel of the palm leaf, then washed, boiled, combed and exposed to sunlight and rest to be combed again, the whole process taking over a week.

Until the mid-1950s, the de Tucum line was the only available source in the rainforest for the production of artisanal yarns used to make sleeping hammocks, fishing lines, nets, ropes, clothing and utensils. It is an item that has been fully associated with the soul of the Indian for centuries, as this was one of the main tools in the rainforest.

At Sarava, we believe that when people understand how and in what context each product is made, know the origins of each piece and the cosmology behind the traditional adornment, a gap opens from the mundane that can reveal the material and immaterial greatness of indigenous art. The energy Tucum brings to Sarav brings that we can be more in this together, with you.
