A bundle of leaves tied together is used as a rhythmic and healing tool in healing ceremonies by shamans of the Shipibo-Conibo people in the Peruvian Amazon. In healing, the chacapou is shaken and rattled over or near the patient's body to trap or sweep away unwanted spirits. Once the shaman captures it in the chacapa, he blows it into the leaves to disperse it into the rainforest where the spirits of the plants absorb and discharge its energy.
