Yawanawa Tribe

The Yawanawa community is in fact an amalgamation of people that includes members of other groups: the Shawãdawa (Arara), the Iskunawa (now known as Shanênawa, who live in a village near the town of Feijó), the Rununawa, the Sainawa (commonly known as Yaminawa, who live in the Bagé River area) and the Katukina. This configuration is the end result of sociological dynamics common to many Pano groups - alliances through marriage, the capture of women during wartime conflicts, family migration - and a series of historical contingencies, particularly changes brought about by the arrival of non-Indians, including epidemics and demographic changes. These processes have led to the incorporation of people from other populations who have historically maintained relationships with the Yawanawa.

Connect with the Amazon rainforest and the tradition of indigenous cultures through earrings made by the women of the Yawanawa tribe.
In the reflection of these jewels, the women combine their traditional knowledge of printmaking with the creative power of each artist. Each piece created by indigenous artists is unique and reflects an entire repertoire built over generations.
