Rapé Parica is used extensively in shamanic initiation, where an adept who aspires to the position of shaman – healer falls into a trance and enters into communication with spirits. Thus he acquires the abilities of a healer, advisor and soothsayer.
Paricá is rapé prepared from the ashes of the seeds of the Anadenanthera peregrina tree, which grows up to 37 metres high. The seeds of this tree contain great spiritual power and are therefore used in various forms by shamans in South America. In traditional medicine, the bark is used as an expectorant in the treatment of upper respiratory tract inflammation.
