Jurema preta

Jurema-preta (black, known as Mimosa Hostilis is a shrub belonging to the fabaceae family, occurring almost throughout the northeast of Brazil and also in El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Colombia and Venezuela. Traditionally, it is used for medicinal and religious purposes. Its bark is used for medicinal purposes, and the bark of the  root plant is widely used in religious ceremonies, as it contains a large amount of tryptamines.

Jurema allowed members of the tribe to look into the world of the dead. It was mainly used in ceremonies that preceded the tribe's military campaigns. Jurema allowed the tribe members to stay up all night before the fight and be connected by healing visions.

Products from this tree are used primarily for skin care in case of wrinkles, herpes, acne, scars, eczema and atopic, burns, stretch marks, cellulite, cuts... Powder from the bark contains 16% tannins, which act astringently, thereby stopping the bleeding of the skin.
