Hand-embroidered ceremonial blanket made by granddaughter Olivia of the Shipibo tribe, who lived near Pucalpa, Peru. The traditional Shipibo pattern reflects tribal cosmology and medical visions. The central motif of this beautiful and very strong blanket is Jiboia, or anaconda, representing the power of transformation, death and birth.

Description

The embroidered ceremonial blankets of the Shipibo tribe reflect the cosmology of the tribe, and their patterns represent visions associated with healing and natural medicine. Shipibo themselves says that their traditional patterns represent the ways of medicine, and the little dots are “doctorsitos,” or ghost healers.
